I had a good day today, The weather was a bit miserable but the company was good. Burrows Lea Country House was lovely.

They would be able to do the ceremony and the sit down meal. The vicar at the local parish is funny about marrying couples from outside the area due to the areas popularity (Apparently). This would be a spiritual civil ceremony, mention of god is permitted as well as hymns and all that business.

There are 6 rooms that can be booked (at additional cost). 6 would be enough for our immediate family but everyone else would have to sleep in their cars. There are hotels close by, Lucy, Sarah, Ben and I went for lunch in one 5 minutes down the road. The pie was good but just really puff pastry squares on top of a chicken hotpot. This is also where Sarah and I came up with the idea of having the pineapple chunks and cheese all stuck into a watermelon!! Great idea!!

This venue is a little expensive, Ben reckons we can negotiate the price down with a full house and rooms and I agree.

Mikes View :: Nice place but pricey.

  2. Lucy Says:

This was an amazing venue, although I am slightly more concerned about the location. The location is difficult to find, impossible without sat nav I imagine. And it is accessed through narrow country lanes.
However once you have found it, the manor house is set in 30 acres of ‘rolling countryside.’ Very beautiful views.
Burrow Lea is a lovely exclusive venue, although expensive as Mike mentions.
I will keep up the search!

  3. Ben Says:

    Great venue!

    Benefits
    • Ours exclusively for the weekend, (we can go into any rooms that aren’t locked!!)
    • Great location for pictures,
    • Staff on site,
    • Local hotels are very nice.
    • Simple solution – everything you need is there and to a high standard.

    Disadvantages
    • Pricey – (all add-ons add on!)
    • Location – hard to find even with a GPS!

Conclusion – Worth finding out if they would be flexible on price throughout May, June, July, August, as when we went they didn’t have a wedding. There could be a deal to have here!
